ABOUT
The ask was to create a draped garment inspired by the Renaissance.
undergarment: 100% cotton jersey, cotton lace doiley
overgarment: 100% silk organza
RESEARCH
After researching traditional renaissance garments, I focused on the undergarment as they were very intricate and were the most intimate piece of clothing a wearer owned.
I found it interesting how the undergarment was often a prominent element of the overall look of a person’s outfit (ie the white gathered garment around the neck in the bottom right photo is an undergarment)

PROCESS
DETAILS
One piece of renaissance dressing that I found fascinating was how undergarments often played an important role in the impact of the whole garment; i.e. a the lace from the neck of an undergarment framed the edge of the overgarment.
I wanted to highlight this detail by using a lace doily I sourced from a vintage store as the cuffs on the chemise.
I love the interplay between the undergarment and overgarment and how you can see where the undergarment is wrinkles and folds with the shape of the overgarment.
